Well, I guess it is inevitable. Good old Stackoverflow (a site for coders to find answers to tech questions/help answer questions) as succumbed to the AI wave… it was only a matter of time, I guess.
I saw something recently that the traffic to Stackoverflow had dropped sharply over the last 6+ months - I wonder why? could it be something to do with ChatGPT and all of the related AI tools popping up all over?
Just when you couldn’t get enough of copy and pasting solutions from Stackoverflow (oh yes, don’t try to hide that!) comes the “Overflow AI” offering. In reality, Stackoverflow had to do something to catch up and adapt as I am sure search engines will not to mention all of the related markets like SEO and goodness knows what (that’ll teach you all, snake-oil sales people! un-fair possibly, but had to say it!).
I really hate using sound-bites or overly used phrasing, but it does seem to be one of those “adapt or die” situations - in the case of Stackoverflow, if their traffic keeps dropping off as it has, their revenue will obviously take a massive hit.
For now, here is the link to the Overflow AI announcement. “Stackoverflow is dead, long live Stackoverflow” :)
